Not so secret symbology

“The Magic Flute” was the last opera Mozart composed and he died very shortly after it’s premier. The plot is considered very convoluted but it turns out that it is full of symbols of Masonic ideas and beliefs that all lodge members would have recognized at the time and Mozart was a member. Another interesting note is that the role of the Queen of the Night was written for Mozart’s sister-in-law.

The Black Death(s)

When the Black Death started in Europe in 1347 doctors could not figure out the cause of the disease. Part of the problem was that there was a combination of two separate diseases that was afflicting the population, One was caused by flea bites and the other was spread through close contact in the air. When the Black Death returned 12 years later this version was only caused by the fleas biting version.
